Breastfeeding Consultants

"There is no way out of the experience except through it, because it is not really your experience at all but the baby’s.
Your body is the child’s instrument of birth."
~Penelope Leach

Jen Strilchuk
Hello! My name is Jen Strilchuk. I live in Abbotsford BC with my wonderfully supportive husband and 6 children!

My journey began when my first born son was placed on my chest immediately after he was born. I felt so empowered and amazing! I remember thinking to myself that I want to find a job where I can surround myself with pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding… I didn’t have a clue what that might be but I knew my dream job was out there somewhere…I felt a calling!

When my best friend became pregnant, I attended her birth and provided labor support for her. I felt so honored to be invited to her birth and the experience left me feeling once again so awed by the strength of women and the miracle of birth…I knew what my dream job was going to be! I took my Dona certified training at Douglas College in 1999 and haven’t looked back! I have a love of learning and am incredibly passionate about pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding...this has led me to enhance my knowledge and expand my experience through continuous, ongoing education in the form of personal exploration, workshops, lectures and conferences.

I have over 16 years’ experience as a Perinatal Consultant with a background in holistic nutrition and health. I bring my own deep experience as a mother of six children to my practice and am honored to offer a continuum of care as you awaken into your new identity as parents.

It is a privilege for me to support you and your partner in this profound transition as you celebrate the life within you and your initiation into parenthood. Currently I offer private prenatal education, birth and postpartum doula services and breastfeeding counseling throughout the Fraser Valley…Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Mission, Aldergrove and Langley areas. For more information about me and the services I provide, please visit my website, “like” me on facebook and/or contact me for more information. I would love to hear from you!

The birth of your baby is one of the most important events of your life. How a woman feels about her birth has an impact on how she feels about herself, her partner and motherhood.

As a Childbirth Educator and Doula I am trained and qualified to support you through this life changing event.

As a mother of five, I have firsthand experience of what pregnancy, birth and postpartum brings. It was through the birth of my children that I became very passionate about educating and empowering others to achieve a positive birth experience.

I offer private Prenatal Education, Christ-Centered Prenatal Education, Birth Doula and Postpartum Doula Services in the Fraser Valley. Currently not taking clients.

In 2006 I began my journey to providing support to women and families to prepare for birth and parenthood. Shortly after the birth of my second child I began to explore the possibility of becoming a doula. I was inspired by the care I had received during birth and postpartum. This inspiration turned to passion, verging on obsession. After many months of reading birth books, searching the net and watching birth shows, I knew that the passion for birth was not subsiding. I turned to Douglas College and enrolled in a DONA approved doula training course which I completed in 2006. I completed the requirements for DONA certification later the following year. It wasn't long before I also completed the comprehensive breastfeeding course for health care providers at Douglas College. Since that time I have attended many workshops and conferences to deepen my knowledge and understanding of birth and breastfeeding to continue to support women and babies in my work as a doula. I am active in my community volunteering on several baby-friendly committees and leading the La Leche League breastfeeding support group to support women to meet their breastfeeding goals. Recently I started sharing my experiences and knowledge as a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator with Douglas College offering 6 week prenatal classes. It is extremely exciting and gratifying to support families for birth. There is a movement towards normal birth and I am hopeful that every mother will embrace it.

Anita Froese
I am passionate about breastfeeding and believe that mothers and babies are designed to breastfeed. I recognize that women often have difficulty finding consistent support and accurate information to help them succeed. I see my role as a coach, there to teach, support, and encourage; to help reduce or smooth out bumps along the way. I want to equip mothers with the information, skills, and encouragement needed to reach their breastfeeding goals.

I am a Registered Nurse and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant with 13 years of experience working with mothers and babies breastfeeding in the Fraser Valley. I am also an instructor for the Douglas College Breastfeeding Course for Health Care Providers in Abbotsford.

I am a mother of 4 beautiful children, all exclusively breastfed for a minimum of 18 months. This has enabled me to bring understanding and empathy about the breastfeeding journey to my consultations with clients.

As a private practice Lactation Consultant, I provide my services in clients’ homes (or hospital). My business is based in Abbotsford and I will also travel to the neighbouring communities of Chilliwack, Mission, and Langley.

I believe mothers remember their experience with giving birth and their experience with breastfeeding throughout their lives. My desire is that mothers feel fulfilled with how they choose to feed their baby and live without regret. I look forward to meeting with you and your baby!

Over the past 14 years I have helped hundreds of mothers on their breastfeeding journey; both as a maternity RN and, since 2012, as a Lactation Consultant in private practice.

I am known for turning around, or at least greatly improving, breastfeeding difficulties, getting challenging non-latching babies to latch, using state-of-the-art techniques to help babies feed optimally.

I became fascinated by birth during my first pregnancy in 2013. Through the tender care of women in my life, I came to realize the miraculous abilities of my own body to nurture my child and I drew strength from trusting in those abilities. I was inspired to dream about what my birth could look like and began a process of empowerment in educating myself about my options surrounding pregnancy and birth. When I encountered breastfeeding challenges after my baby was born, I desperately wanted someone to come alongside me to guide and encourage. Without this help, I found myself trying to figure it out on my own. My personal experiences with birth and breastfeeding inspired me to become educated in these areas to guide and care for women in these unique moments of life. I completed both the DONA Birth Doula workshop and the Douglas College Breastfeeding Course for Healthcare Providers in 2014 and I continue to remain current through ongoing education.
