"Speak tenderly to them. Let there be kindness in your face, in your eyes, in your smile, in the warmth of our greeting.
Always have a cheerful smile. Don't only give your care, but give your heart as well."

Jen Strilchuk
Hello! My name is Jen Strilchuk. I live in Abbotsford BC with my wonderfully supportive husband and 6 children!

My journey began when my first born son was placed on my chest immediately after he was born. I felt so empowered and amazing! I remember thinking to myself that I want to find a job where I can surround myself with pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding… I didn’t have a clue what that might be but I knew my dream job was out there somewhere…I felt a calling!

When my best friend became pregnant, I attended her birth and provided labor support for her. I felt so honored to be invited to her birth and the experience left me feeling once again so awed by the strength of women and the miracle of birth…I knew what my dream job was going to be! I took my Dona certified training at Douglas College in 1999 and haven’t looked back! I have a love of learning and am incredibly passionate about pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding...this has led me to enhance my knowledge and expand my experience through continuous, ongoing education in the form of personal exploration, workshops, lectures and conferences.

I have over 16 years’ experience as a Perinatal Consultant with a background in holistic nutrition and health. I bring my own deep experience as a mother of six children to my practice and am honored to offer a continuum of care as you awaken into your new identity as parents.

It is a privilege for me to support you and your partner in this profound transition as you celebrate the life within you and your initiation into parenthood. Currently I offer private prenatal education, birth and postpartum doula services and breastfeeding counseling throughout the Fraser Valley…Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Mission, Aldergrove and Langley areas. For more information about me and the services I provide, please visit my website, read my blog, “like” me on facebook and/or contact me for more information. I would love to hear from you!

The birth of your baby is one of the most important events of your life. How a woman feels about her birth has an impact on how she feels about herself, her partner and motherhood.

As a Childbirth Educator and Doula I am trained and qualified to support you through this life changing event.

As a mother of five, I have firsthand experience of what pregnancy, birth and postpartum brings. It was through the birth of my children that I became very passionate about educating and empowering others to achieve a positive birth experience.

I offer private Prenatal Education, Christ-Centered Prenatal Education, Birth Doula and Postpartum Doula Services in the Fraser Valley. Currently not taking clients.

I truly stumbled into my passion for birth, but believe it was no accident! It all began with the birth of my first son. I had an emergency C-section with him and longed for a different birth experience. While pregnant with my second son I attended a vaginal delivery and it inspired me to try a VBCA. My VBAC was a better experience but I still went through PPD and felt alone. I met a Doula shortly after this birth and realized birth could be different! This is where my personal birth journeys and passions began to align! Something deep within me knew I was meant to support women through their birth journeys. I became a birth doula and then DONA certified. I also became pregnant with my third son after becoming a doula! With a newfound confidence in my abilities and a doula by our side I finally experienced the birth I had been longing for! Since then it has been my passion to support women through their own birth journeys.

Each woman’s journey and birth philosophy is unique to her and it has become my goal to support and celebrate each woman’s individual needs. I have continued my education and become a certified Dancing For Birth Instructor and took the Breastfeeding for Health Care Providers course and love supporting breastfeeding mothers. As a birth Doula, DFB instructor and Breastfeeding support person it has truly been a gift to walk alongside these amazing women!

Shortly after the birth of my second child I began to explore the possibility of becoming a doula. I was inspired by the care I had received during birth and postpartum. This inspiration turned to passion, verging on obsession. After many months of reading birth books, searching the net and watching birth shows, I knew that the passion for birth was not subsiding. I turned to Douglas College and enrolled in a DONA approved doula training course which I completed in 2006. I completed the requirements for DONA certification later the following year. It wasn't long before I also completed the comprehensive breastfeeding course for health care providers at Douglas College. Since that time I have attended many workshops and conferences to deepen my knowledge and understanding of birth and breastfeeding to continue to support women and babies in my work as a doula. I am active in my community volunteering on several baby-friendly committees and leading the La Leche League breastfeeding support group to support women to meet their breastfeeding goals. Recently I started sharing my experiences and knowledge as a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator with Douglas College offering 6 week prenatal classes. It is extremely exciting and gratifying to support families for birth. There is a movement towards normal birth and I am hopeful that every mother will embrace it.

My journey into doula-land has been a series of discoveries. My first discovery was the emotional pain of infertility; as difficult as it was, I also discovered valuable lessons about the sacredness of a new life being entrusted to one's care. Then I discovered the absolute shock of becoming pregnant - could this really be true?! I discovered the marvelous moments of upchucking, the in-between moments of trying not to, popping out of waistbands, and a set of tiny feet kicking the inside of my ribs. And I discovered a fascination with birth. I thought all moms-to-be shared my fascination, but I soon discovered otherwise. I lived in a country where birth was often feared. One young wife asked me to teach her how to have a baby like I had, so that she wouldn’t be afraid. Mustering my fledgling language skills, I discovered the fun of passing on what I had learned – and also discovered a few new skills with my bilingual dictionary! And so began Prenatal 101…

By the time I’d delivered and breastfed several more babies, I often found myself answering questions about birth and breastfeeding. Sometimes this led to hours of teaching and encouraging as moms prepared for birth or adjusted to nursing their babies. About 15 or 20 years into this process, I discovered the word “doula”! Upon coming to Chilliwack several years ago, I was fortunate to discover the Fraser Valley Birth Network, a group who shares this fascination with birth.

Miranda Chiasson
I’m Miranda Chiasson of Elderberry Birth. I am a lover of normal, natural, sacred birth, a mother to two girls, partner to my husband Ian, a gardener, musician and book devourer. I came to the path of birth work beginning with my own pregnancy in 2010. Since that time I have learned more than I knew there was to learn about birth and I’ve only just scratched the surface. My greatest passion is to see parents own their birth and have one of the greatest experiences of their lives. I hope to facilitate this by offering loving support, empowering information, and deepest trust in our own bodies and babies.

I would love to meet with you to share a complimentary consultation to explore if I am the right fit for your pregnancy and birth journey. Please visit my website or contact me through one of the following options.

Tonia MacKay
Hi, my name is Tonia MacKay and I live in Mission with my husband and three amazing kids. My husband and I were not able to conceive easily and so we had to navigate our way through the crazy world of infertility. After five years we were blessed to become pregnant with our daughter and then quickly after two sons. This journey through infertility taught me to treasure my pregnancies, value being able to experience childbirth and simply adore my newborn babies. We feel so lucky to have three children and to have had three natural births. Although every birth is different I use the experiences of my own births to help you through yours. I understand that your birth story is a time in your life that you'll remember forever and I want it to be remembered in a positive way. I love having the privilege of being a part of your special day. I have completed the DONA Birth Doula workshop through Douglas College as well as a Breastfeeding Education Courses.
